Reaching Forth Things Which are Before

"Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 3:12-14 (KJV)

A lot of things happened in the past year and so. Victories that we'll cherish or pains we'll perhaps linger for sometime. Some people are so sentimental to mark dates of almost anything that transpired. Setting some days to commemorate a victorious day or a day of mourning. The bible however teaches that we Christians should move forward, forgetting those things that are behind. We cannot live in our past. Our failures and misfortunes will only bring us heartaches and worries if we won't leave them behind. Oh yes, that person is so close to your heart. That event surely was an integral part of your family heritage. At times we feel guilty if we don't purposely mark that day, making us feels so irresponsible or uncaring. Traditions and cultures made us feel that way, but the bible teaches otherwise. The apostle Paul said we should instead reach forth unto those things, which are about to come. Brighter days, blessed hopes and fulfillment of God's promises to his children.

What about our past victories, are we not supposed to keep on remembering them? Doesn't the bible teaches his people to give testimonies to glorify God for what He's done in our lives? There's nothing wrong in remembering the past, especially if we are doing it for edification or to glorify God for His goodness. Remembering the past and living in the past are two different things however. Some Christians testify the same events over and over again for years. And yes, I personally heard a couple of brethren doing that and that's it. If the Lord comes today, their latest testimony happened 10 to 15 years ago. I do not doubt those events really happened. The point is we are serving a living God! Jesus was good to me years ago, He is blessing me now and He is going to do more wonderful things for me tomorrow and the months and years ahead, glory to His name!

We have won a few souls to the kingdom, that's great. But thousands and millions out there are still bound to hell if we'll simply talk about these few souls that we led to Christ years ago. If God used us then He has a better ministry for us today. Do not stop; let's move on proclaiming the good news that Jesus saves. Jesus heals. Jesus mends broken hearts and lives. Jesus is the only answer for the world today. Above Him there's no other, Jesus is the way! Let us enjoy more of His glorious victories that lie ahead as He promised.
