We Were Made to Glorify Him

Glory - praise, credit, admiration

1 Corinthians 6:17-20 (KJV) 17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. 18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

What do you think is the purpose of life?

  1. For us to reign over and enjoy His creations? After all we were made in the image of God, the highest and most important of all His creations.
  2. Some Christians believe that they were appointed to win in every situations, be victorious in every battle and get whatever their hearts desire.
  3. Well, we can say that that is true to some extent, but this is not the main reason why we exist.

Bible says we must glorify God in our bodies and spirits which are His.

  • All men of all races are expected to glorify God
    Psalms 86:9 (KJV)

9 All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name.

  • Most especially if you are a child of God
    Psalms 69:26-30 (KJV)

26 For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded. 27 Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness. 28 Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous. 29 But I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high. 30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.

  • We are commanded to glorify Him
    1 Chronicles 16:28-29 (KJV)

28 Give unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength. 29 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

God is worthy of our praise:

    1. For His holiness
    2. For His mercy and grace
    3. For His faithfulness
    4. For His truth
    5. For His wondrous works
    6. For His judgments
    7. For His deliverance

So what if we don't give Him glory as we should?

Malachi 2:2 (KJV)

2 If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.

Acts 12:23 (KJV)
23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

We are His children, we don't glorify Him because we are threatened with curse or death if we don't, we just love to praise Him! Job 13:15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.

God's goodness to us and His blessings are designed to lead us to glorify Him

Isaiah 60:21 (KJV)

21 Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.

- And what do you do when you are blessed? - Go to Las Vegas; take a vacation instead of coming to the assembly to proclaim God's goodness in your life? - The most annoying excuse I have been hearing is that "This is America, I should not impose the way we used to do it back in the Philippines.."

I have seen several saints whom the Lord showed mercy upon. Instead of repenting and mending their lives, they have took it for granted and went on to live a life of ease; I am horrified for them.

Romans 1:21-32 (KJV)
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
